In this long labor day weekend, I was in the mood of doing some shopping, read some Internet shopping, read some geeky Internet shopping.
The target of the day was a Nabaztag rabbit. As Mindscape, the company that owns Nabaztag and Karrotz now, decided to discontinue its support for Nabaztag, I was hoping to find some intersting bargains on E-bay. I may after all keep my current Nabaztag hooked to Nabizdead service while setting a new OpenJabNab server for the new comer.
Only two bunnies were on display this Saturday. I went for the one that was offered at a starting price of $50. I topped that starting price by 50 cents (why bid more, when you can perfectly bid less?). To my astonishiment, I was outbid a few minutes later by one dollar. This little game went on for a few minutes, whenever I placed a bid, I was outbid in the following second, regardless of the amount. I ended up suspacting that the company/guy/girl/bot who put this Nabaztag on e-bay, also opened another e-bay account just to make potential byers pay the maximum price.
Given the fabulous promptness of my e-bay adversary, and given the fact that he/she/it only made bids on this specific product, I gave up bidding on this one. In the meantime, I made an offer (not a bid) for another Nabaztag and my offer was accepted.
